ಜಾತಕರ್ಮ
Jatakarma is the first samskara after birth. The rites include the whispering of mantras for long life and intellect, the offering of honey and ghee, and the prayers made on the child’s behalf. It is performed soon after birth and precedes the namakarana.
The full samagri list is sent in writing once the date is confirmed.
Where the timing did not permit jatakarma at birth, the rites are commonly performed together with the namakarana.
