About this ceremony

A Vedic marriage is a sequence of rites, each with its own meaning. It begins with nandi (invoking the ancestors) and the vara pooja, moves through kanyadana and panigrahana, reaches its centre at mangalya dharana and saptapadi — the seven steps that make the marriage complete — and closes with the laja homa and the concluding blessings. We conduct the ceremony in full, keeping to the muhurta for the essential rites.

Why it is performed

  • The complete vidhi, with no rite omitted for time
  • Muhurta fixed from both horoscopes before the date is set
  • Additional priests arranged for the scale of the wedding
  • Each rite explained to both families as it is performed

What the ceremony includes

  • Nandi / punyahavachana and ancestor invocation
  • Vara pooja and kanyadana
  • Panigrahana and mangalya dharana
  • Saptapadi and laja homa
  • Pravara and gotra recitation
  • Concluding aashirvada and mangalarati

What to prepare

  • Share both horoscopes well in advance so the muhurta can be matched
  • Confirm the number of priests needed for the scale of the function
  • Arrange the mandapa, homa kunda space and seating as advised
  • Keep the mangalasutra, wedding cloth and ritual items ready the previous evening

The full samagri list is sent in writing once the date is confirmed.
