Namakarana is the samskara in which a child receives their name. The ceremony opens with Ganapati pooja and punyahavachana to purify the household, followed by the nakshatra name being determined from the birth star and the chosen name being whispered into the child’s ear. The blessings of the elders conclude the rite.
